Washington County levy funding local libraries appears headed for approval

Partial tallies as of 8 p.m. showed 57% of voters supporting the tax hike. The county asked voters to increase the library levy on property owners by 15 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, moving it from 22 cents to 37 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. A property owner with a home valued at $567,214, the average home value for the county according to Zillow, will pay around $210, up from the current $125. That change will go into effect in July 2026. The designated library tax accounts for 45% of the revenue of Washington County Cooperative Library Services, the entity linking 16 local libraries in the county. That figure will now jump closer to 60%. That money goes towards reading and learning support for the county's youth, centralized services allowing materials to be reserved…...
